SALARY RANGE:
$4,737 – $6,217 per month

TYPE OF POSITION:
Permanent, Full-time. This position is represented by the WFSE.
Important Note: Once appointed to this position the incumbent will be required to pay union dues or other representation fees within the first 30 days of employment.

POSITION PROFILE:

An integral part of a team of Professional Land Surveyors and technicians in the DNR State Land Survey Unit this position supports all upland divisions of DNR by composing land descriptions for agency transactions and other land activities and
•Reviews legal descriptions, surveys for transactions, rights of ways and leases that come from outside sources. Ensures that engineering plans associated with these descriptions and surveys correlate with the described boundaries correctly.
•Reviews the sections within land based contracts, which refer to land descriptions and exhibit maps.
•Advises agency staff about when a survey will be required prior to the composition of an accurate legal description.
•Produces surveys for transactions, BLAs, etc. on an as needed basis.
•Serves as project manager and manages A/E contracts with outside survey companies selected to provide consulting services.
•Serves as an agency lead in setting the standards for and checking of upland right of way and lease plats.
•Instructs and teaches agency staff in the understanding of land descriptions, maps and land survey data.



Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Possess a valid Washington State Professional Land Surveyor's License.
•Have a thorough knowledge of Land Survey laws, regulations and legal description composition.
•Have the ability to convey complex technical information to peers, managers, program specialists and other non-technical staff.
•Demonstrate a high level of customer service and have the ability to prioritize work with tight deadlines.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
•Two years in responsible charge of boundary land surveying, in either the field or office, after receiving a Professional Land Surveyor's license.
•Competence in the use of AutoCAD to produce land survey maps and exhibits.
•Ability to use and interpret GIS data as it pertains to lands and rights of ways.
•Experience reading and interpreting engineering plans as they pertain to land boundaries.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
•Maintain a valid Washington State Professional Land Surveyor's license.
•The incumbent in this position will occasionally be required to travel.
•Employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy PO02-006 and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements
•Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
