OBEC Consulting Engineers has a Survey Technician 3/Party Chief position open in our Lake Oswego, Oregon office.

Summary
The Survey Technician 3 will perform office and field assignments involving the use of total stations, data collectors, digital levels, GNSS receivers, Trimble Business Center, Microstation/InRoads and AutoCAD/Civil 3D; use knowledge and experience for route, topographic, construction and land development surveying; interact with teams from different disciplines throughout the company; utilize/maintain specialized survey equipment, and perform related technical tasks with regular review and direction from Project Surveyors. This position will help supervise/mentor lower level survey technicians; generate reports and provide project support services as directed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform and exhibit a high level mastery of all routine procedures and survey equipment.
• Must have a high level of mastery with complex procedures under limited direction from others.
• Perform surveys, gather data, analyze/interpret results, draft reports, maintain records, research public records and carry out assignments with project team members.
• Prepare survey project deliverables, per work assignment.
• Communicate effectively with clients and other staff members.
• Ensure survey instrumentation and field equipment is operated properly, maintained in good working condition and that routine maintenance is performed.
• Coach/Mentor junior level survey technicians in survey techniques.
• Practice health and safety awareness and self-protection at all times.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications

Education:

This position requires a High School Diploma or an Associates of Science Degree, combined with 4 years’ experience. A Bachelors' of Science degree in surveying and/or engineering is preferred and shall substitute for 2 years' worth of experience.

Certifications:

• Land Surveying Intern (LSI) preferred
• Certified Survey Technician (CST) preferred
• Ability to work towards obtaining PLS, preferred

Job Related Skills:

• Highly proficient at being able to draw conclusions from survey data.
• Highly proficient at being able to keep accurate and concise field notes.
• Must be able to apply procedures and techniques, including general scientific theories and engineering concepts and principles independently.
• Advanced proficiency adjusting and operating surveying equipment.
• Advanced proficiency at coordinate geometry and trigonometry skills and ability to apply them to survey tasks.
• Fully proficient oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to manage one's own time effectively.
• Excellent customer service, team interactions, coordination, and communication skills.
• Interest and ability to learn new software and ability to work cooperatively in a professional team environment.
• Will act as a mentor to lower level Survey Staff.
• Developing proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Demonstrate high level of proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and/or MicroStation/InRoads.
• Advanced proficiency with GNSS receivers, data collectors, total stations, digital levels and Trimble Business Center.
• Must possess Oregon or Washington Driver's License.
