Whatcom County Public Works is recruiting for the position of Senior Survey Technician in the Engineering Division. The Senior Survey Technician provides the day-to-day on-site planning, coordination, direction and oversight of field work performed by survey crews. Assists with and oversees survey operations and activities including planning, organizing, staffing, and directing the efforts of staff, and other work and community groups to accomplish the work, mission and goals of the Department.

This position also represents Whatcom County by maintaining a professional approach and demeanor in all activities. Conducts and records accurate field surveys such as topographic, horizontal & vertical control and right-of-way (R/W) boundary location work for the engineering design of County Public Works Projects, including, but not limited to, road rights-of-way, road alignment and grades, setting stakes for the location of utilities, road monumentation and perpetuation of land corners, road and bridge maintenance support and various other construction projects.

The Senior Survey Technician conducts surveys of gravel pits, quarries, landfills and other sites for the purpose of County property boundary locations as well as inventory of materials, and conducts surveys of the scenes of traffic accidents, taking direction from law enforcement personnel and assisting Engineering’s Traffic Division.
