The Seattle Parks and Recreation Department is seeking two, field and office, undergraduate and/or graduate college students to:

Field Internship: assist 2 or 3 person field crew with survey and topographic mapping SPR development project sites, locating boundary lines and associated encroachments, providing survey control for construction projects.

Office Internship: assist office staff with research of survey records, utilities, historic documents, provide CAD drafting, filing, scanning, organizing and data management of field notes, field books, and drawing files.

Educational Benefit to Student:
Gain Land Survey and Mapping experience, Boundary Control and Legal Principles, Legal Descriptions, Topographic mapping and CAD drafting, Total Station, 3D Laser Scanning, GPS and Vertical Control surveys that qualify for Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) and eventual Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) registration. Organizational, planning, monitoring, budgetary and safety skills will also be included.

Job Responsibilities
Field Survey and Topographic Mapping.
Boundary and Control Research, Recovery and Setting Out.
Filing, Copying, Scanning, Researching, Organizing Land Survey notes, plans, and records.
Historic Records Research, Data download, editing, QA/QC, processing in CAD (Civil 3D 2020), drafting, plotting, field checks.
Qualifications
This internship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled in either a two, four year or graduate program, preferably studying: Land Surveying, Geomatics, Geospatial, GIS or Civil Engineering Technology.

Two and Four year college students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship. Graduate students will need to maintain a satisfactory GPA of 3.0 or higher for the duration of the internship.

Computer and Keyboarding
Basic Math.
Read and interpret plans, notes, sketches, drawings and field notes
Legible handwriting
Desired Qualifications:
Geometry/Trigonometry
Survey Field equipment exposure
AutoCAD 2017 or newer
(COGO/Civil 3D a plus)
Land Surveying
Construction Technology
Cartography
GIS, or related Engineering classes or experience
Additional Information
Start/End Dates: Intern will start in early October, 2020 and end early September, 2021. Intern will work 20 hours/week. Work can be scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Telework/Flex schedule for Office internship possible after initial training.

Salary: Undergraduate students from 2-year and 4-year colleges will be paid $17.84/hour. Graduate students will be paid $21.87/hour.
